Night Concert: Ye Sacred Muses

Explore English sacred music of the Renaissance in a programme that sets Thomas Tallis’s measured, meditative works against William Byrd’s more emotionally nuanced language, tracing the pupil’s response to his master.

Byrd’s motet Ye Sacred Muses, written in memory of Tallis, forms the emotional centre of the evening. The resonant acoustics of St. Peter’s crypt and the late-night atmosphere make the space a full participant, inviting attentive presence and quiet transformation.
